Impossible?
Have you ever looked at your situation and thought, “This is impossible?”
If you are a person of faith, You’re undoubtedly familiar with the scripture, “With God all things are possible!” (Mat 19:26)
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard a sermon preached on this very topic……..I would have a lot of dollars.
Did you know that people use to think that running a mile in 4 minutes was impossible? And then someone did it, and now its a standard in running. (A ridiculous standard I might add, but a standard none the less)
Life can have a way of presenting us with “impossible” circumstances. You think, I will never get over this issue. I will never be healed. This relationship is too far gone. Things will never be better than they are right now!
Admittedly, I have said some of these very same things. I have found myself stuck in a cycle of discouragement. Not only is it no fun, its no way to live!
I’m reminded of a story in Exodus when the children of Israel were running to freedom from Pharaoh.
Exodus 14:10 - As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, (11) And they said to Moses, Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness?…… Alot more murmuring…… then they finished by saying, (12) Its better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!
WOW, a tad dramatic i’m sure Moses thought! Why don’t you tell me how you really feel!!?
But are we really any different today? You let things go bad enough for long enough and we question everything. Is God even good? Does He even see me in this mess? Does He care? Did He bring me all this way to let me die here?
The children of Israel were standing at the edge of the water in an impossible situation. They truly believed that they were better off as slaves; they wanted to go back to Egypt. They believed they were going to die. They believed there was no way forward, they believed there was no way out! They believed everything but the truth!
Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”
Moses raised his arms, and the seas……the whole ocean y’all, began to open up and reveal a way out!
Psalms 77:19 - Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters-a pathway no one knew was there!
A Pathway no one knew was there except the one who created it!
God has a much better perspective and a much better view than us. He sees what we can’t see, He knows what we don’t know.
I think we need to take Moses’s advice, and “Just stay calm!” If you look at Jesus, and He starts panicking, then you can panic. But until then, panic is just a lot of wasted energy and unnecessary anxiety.
God always makes a way where there seems to be no way for His kids. He’s a good Father, that’s what they do. But “rescue” rarely looks like we think it will look. I really doubt that the children of Israel expected the sea to split. But boy they were happy when it did and they walked on across.
Personally, I’ve seen Him do it in my life and in the lives of many others. I’ve seen Him do it too many times to doubt Him. Ask yourself, why wouldn’t He??
I wrestled with writing this when I first felt impressed to write. I have been through some very dark, challenging, and painful times that caused me to question. During those times, I would have started to read something like this, and then passed right on by thinking, “That person just doesn’t understand!” Or “they clearly have never been through anything!”
But I can tell you from personal experience, His word is true! He was always right there with me through it all. I would never have chosen to walk through some of those hard things, but He brought me through to the other side better and more free than I could have ever imagined.
Deep pain brings Deep presence!
I want to encourage you today, that what ever sea or mountain is standing right in front of you, trust and believe that there is more there than what you can see. God has already made a way through for you. Don’t let discouragement cause you to give up…….ALL things are possible to him who believes.
I love Psalms 77 verse 16 - When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths.
If the sea understands just how powerful God is, why would we ever doubt it?
You are valuable, loved, chosen and blessed. Don’t let your circumstances cause you to forget that. Be mad, be hurt, be scared, be upset…….Just don’t stay that way!
The God who made the impossible possible for His children back then, is still making the impossible possible today! And here’s the icing for this cake I’m baking……. The very sea that parted and made a way for His kids, swallowed up their enemies!!!!!
(Sing with me……Aint no mountain high enough, aint no valley low enough, aint no river wide enough, to keep me from getting to you)
So my friend, In hard times don’t give up! Keep moving forward! God is not finished writing your story. Your breakthrough may be closer than you think.
My mama used to say, “everything works out in the end! If things aint working out, it aint the end!
