God doesn’t need you
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.” Psalm 50:12
We live in a world that rewards being needed. Being needed feels like having purpose. It’s the late-night text that says, “Can you talk?” It’s the constant pull of parenting, pastoring, leading, supporting. Being needed gives you a seat at the table but it often comes with a heavy plate.
Let’s be honest: Being needed is good, but it can also wear you out. It’s not bad—it’s just heavy.
You feel the tension:
If I don’t show up, who will?
If I don’t handle this, will it fall apart?
If I stop, do I still matter?
But here’s the holy reset:
God doesn’t need you. He wants you.
Let that breathe for a second.
God is not sustained by your performance. He’s not counting on you to feed Him Psalm 50:12 makes that very clear. He owns it all. He lacks nothing. He depends on no one.
But still… He chooses you. Not because you’re useful. Because you’re loved. Not because of what you can offer. But simply because He wants to be with you.
There’s no burden in that.
There’s just peace.
So, today, shift out of striving. Let go of the pressure to be the glue that holds everything together.
And relax in this:
You are not God’s employee. You are His beloved.
He doesn’t need you to feed Him. He wants to walk with you, carry you, care for you.
Take a breath…
and relax.
